We began working with the New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation in 1997. In years since, NOPJF has braved challenges both natural and man-made, including historic storms and their resulting tumult, officer shortages and surging crime, national events and security needs, population shifts and infrastructure strains. But throughout, one thing remained constant: the kind of person that NOPJF wanted to recruit. It was always the altruists, people seeking a sense of purpose rather than just a paycheck. The ones so rooted in their communities that they couldn’t help but want to protect them. Those were the people we had the privilege of reaching out to time and again. In one instance, we were given the goal of helping to recruit 1,500 new qualifying cadets. Our targeted digital and outdoor efforts drummed up 2,293 recruits in 2014, and 2,874 in the first half of 2015.
